Activities for the month of September 2015

1. 13 students from MCA Department participated in two day National level Technical Symposium - ANVAYA ’15 at Ethiraj college for Women on 10th & 11th September 2015.

2. Vinod. V and Devika .R from III MCA won 1st place in DB Shark event organized by Ethiraj College.

3. Basker from III MCA won IInd place in Google I event organized by Ethiraj College.

4. 8 Students from MCA department participated in various Technical Events : Paper Presentation, Debugging and Quiz organized by Vel’s University on 15th September 2015.



Activities 2014

1. Final year MCA students attended the Personality Development programme by Mr.Sudhir on 4-8-2014 & 5-8-2014.

2. Mr.Jawahar .S, Assistant Professor & HOD of MCA department attended a one day seminar on “Research Tools and Techniques in Computer Science” organized by presidency college, Chennai on 5.8.2014

3. 6 students of III MCA attended the Seminar on “The Scope of French Language in Global Market” organized by Shift II French Department of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science on 12.8.2014.

4. Soft Skill Spoken English Programme was conducted by the MCA students on behalf of YRC, ASAN College in Government Higher Secondary School, Pallikaranai for 3 days (11.08.2014 to 13.08.2014). 35 participants attended the programme and prizes were given to the best performers.

5. Two final year MCA students attended the seminar on “30 days Challenges” by Mr. Neil Prem, International Director, Future Possibilities, Cambridge,U.K on 27-8-2014 organized by Asan Business School.

6. Mr.Jawahar S, Assistant Professor & HOD of MCA department presented a research paper in the “National Conference” on “Emerging innovative technologies” organized by Thiruthangal Nadar college, Chennai on 27.8.2014

7. Four final year MCA students attended the Personality Development programme hosted by the experts from Academic Career Excellence, Chennai from 9.9.2014 to 17.9.2014 organized by MBA Department, Asan Institute of Management, Chennai.

8. II MCA and I MCA students participated in various intercollegiate technical events organized by Ethiraj College “ANVANYA-14” on 15.9.2014 & 16.9.2014.

7. Ms.Sumi & Ms.Arthi of II MCA participated in the 26th year celebrations organized by All India Human Rights Association, Chennai on 13th February 2013

8. An Industrial visit to Naresh Technologies, Adyar was organized on 15th February 2013

One of the major challenges faced by the Management Institutes today is to develop the soft skills such as communication, team building, leadership, attitude and confidence building among the students to make them employable at the end of the programme. To meet this challenge, the institute conducted several courses and workshops on 'Personality Development and Communication Skills' during the year. To mention a few,

2. Soft Skill Training programme was organized for MBA students by Mr.Sudhir of Zen Training Academy in the month of August

5. Students of MCA & MBA have attended a seminar on "Motivation to GenNext" by Dr.Gunasekaran, Former Registrar, Periyar University organized by MCA Department of Asan Memorial College on 5th February 2013

A majority of the students are well placed in the campus interviews and a good number of them are likely to be absorbed in the company's in which they are doing their internships. The remaining are interested in setting up of their own business or Pursuing higher education in abroad. Several reputed companies such as Delloite, Indiamart.com., ICICI Prudential, Reliance Life Insurance, Capgemini, Sundaram Finance have visited the campus recently and recruited our students with attractive packages

Faculty Participation

For an institute like ours conducting courses in Management and IT areas which are undergoing rapid changes, it is most critical for the faculty members to update their knowledge and skills. To meet this challenge, faculty members are encouraged to participate in Faculty Development Programmes and seminars organized by reputed institutions.

Asan Video Awards

1. Asan Video Awards is the prime event of Visual Communication department. This year we celebrated 9th AVA. We got nearly 80 entries from various institutes and colleges at national level. The competition is categorised into streams like Short Films, Documentary, Animated movies and Ad films. Mr. K. S. Sethu Madhavan, Mr. Santhana Bharathi, Mr. Lenin and Mr. Muneer Ahamed were the jury members to finalise the best students work. The winners of the 9th AVA 2015 were awarded a prize of Rs.75,000

2. This year we had Film director Mr. 'Jayam' Raja. M as a chief guest to grace the occasion. Director Mr. 'Jayam' Raja. M gave valuable speech which was one of the most interesting information in the event for our students. Editor Mr. Lenin pulled the crowd by his pulsating speech about the film industry. IQAC of our college is organizing a National Conference on "Quality Enrichment – A Pinnacle for Higher Educational Institutions" on 21st February 2015.

The core focus of this conference is to provide a suitable and conducive platform to discuss debate and present various strategies for the enrichment and sustenance of the quality education for which papers on the various topics related to the quality enrichment are invited.

Overall Championship bagged by RKM Vivekananda College of Arts and Science, Chennai.

Corporate Social Responsibility (corporate conscience)
1. CSR has become an integral part of corporate strategy. The new companies Act 2013 has made it mandatory for some category of companies. Companies have CSR teams to formulate policies, strategies for their CSR programmes and allocate funds for the same. In this contest on CSR, the rules are as follows:

1. Two teams from a college can participate
2. Two members per team will be allowed
3. Participants are required to develop a comprehensive proposal on CSR for their imaginary company
4. The team should present and discuss the proposal to the panel of judges
5. Prize will be awarded for the best proposal

ASAN ONAM DAY CELEBRATION AND STAMP RELEASE

Revelling in the festive spirit of Onam and week-long cultural activities, Asan Memorial Association (AMA) concluded its Onam celebration function on Saturday September 13th, 2014. The function held within the premises of Asan Memorial School with traditional fervour and gaiety had national award winning veteran Malayalam actor and theatre artist KPAC Lalitha as the Chief Guest.

AMA presented a special stamp and postal cover commemorating the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Chennai city Postmaster General, Mervin Alexander who was the Guest of honour released the stamp and postal cover at the function.

Speaking at the event, Postmaster General Mervin Alexander told the audience present that the significance of releasing stamps lies in the fact that the selective event is now etched into history. "Milestones such as these won't be forgotten with the passage of time," he said.

Activities Of 17.07-14 to 20.08.2014

1. Mr. Sandip Mukerjee, Dy. CEO, Hand in Hand India, have addressed the II MBA students on the functioning of NGO with special reference to Hand- in- Hand an International NGO on 23rd July 2014.

2. A group of II MBA students has attended intercollegiate competition conducted by Jeppiar Engineering College on 24/7/2014 and they got 2nd prize in Best Manager and 3rd prize in Adzap.

3. Ms. Ambika & Ms. Mary Jasmine has presented on paper entitled “A Conceptual review of HR Accounting and HR Audit in relation with HRM” in the National Conference organized by Bharatidasan Government College for Women, Pondichery on 25/7/2014.

4. A visit to the Waste Management Project maintained by Hand in Hand at Mahabalipuram and nearby village adopted by the NGO was arranged on 2nd August 2014. This helped the students to understand the concept of working of SHG.

5. Ms. Deepti Bhatia, Deputy Director, Vidya Sagar and Ms. Anuradha Sankar, Trainer have addressed the II MBA students on “career opportunities for Management Graduates in the Social Enterprise field on 6/8/2014.

6. A presentation on Certification Programme in project Management was given by Ms. Jeena Christina, Vice President, Spiyntax Software Solutions.

7. A One day workshop on “Career Opportunities available in BFSI Industry is organized for II MBA students on 21st Aug 2014. Mr. Rajan. R Manager- Training is the Resource person.

8. Classes for the I MBA commenced from 7th August 2014. An introduction talk was given by Mr. Reji Christopher, a motivational speaker. A three days Induction programme is scheduled for the I MBA students from 20th August 2014.

9. 17 students selected our Institute in the TANCET Counselling. 8 of them have joined till date. Admission could be made till 28th Aug’ 2014.

1. It is proposed to conduct a Workshop “30 days challenges” on 27th and 28th of August 2014. Mr. Neil Prem, Trainer and Professional Coach from Cambridge, UK will be conducting the workshop.

Genesis 2014

The two-day cultural fest “GENESIS 2014” organized by Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School and Kumaran Asan Memorial Higher Secondary School, which began on August 13th in the Ammu Swaminathan Auditorium at the Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School campus came to a close on August 14th.

GENESIS 2014 offers a platform for students from various schools to let loose their spirit and become a part of the excitement and energy of this event. It is a chance for everyone to unleash their creativity and showcase their talent. The event attracts entries in huge numbers from participants across schools in Chennai to compete.

The Chief guests for the inauguration of the cultural extravaganza were Film Director Prabhu Solomon, Mrs. Rekha Thankappan - CEO of Dr. Mohan’s Group of Institutions, and Dr. Gautham Babu – Executive Director, Asan Memorial Educational Institutions amidst great enthusiasm and eagerness. The closing ceremony of the cultural fest had Film Director Vijay and Actor Amitash Pradhan “Velaiyilla Pattathari” fame, wherein they presided over the valedictory function and gave away the prizes to the winners respectively.

CURTAIN RAISER: 50 YEARS OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 2015

Approaching the 50th year of its journey of academic excellence in 2015, Asan Memorial Association, had its curtain raiser of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations on Sunday, July 27th 2014. It was the vision of Sri. A. K. Gopalan Chairman & Founder Secretary with few other friends who were eminent literary figures and those deeply interested in public affairs decided to start and establish an independent memorial to Mahakavi Kumaran Asan in the city of Madras. What started as a small temporary shed has now bloomed into established and successful high-quality educational institutions that cater to the basic, vocational and higher educational needs of the children of malayalees and non-malayalees in the city of Chennai, under the stewardship of Sri. A. K. Gopalan fondly called AKG.

The inaugural function of the Golden Jubilee Celebration was held at the auditorium in the Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School campus, and started with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the guests on the dais and a prayer sung beautifully by the school students. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour for the evening were his Excellency Dr. K. Rosaiah, the Governor of Tamilnadu and Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization respectively.

The function had the welcome speech addressed by Sashi Kumar, Chairman, Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee while Dr. C. K. Revi, President of the Asan Memorial Association, presided over the function. "The Association has been giving the Asan Smaraka Kavitha Puraskaram and we are instituting a new award for journalism this year," he said. This was followed by Mrs. Shyamala Jayaprakash, General Secretary's introductory speech on the various scholarships that has been initiated. The evening concluded with a light music program.

Commemorating this special occasion, the new AKG Public School was launched at Pallikaranai, Chennai. The committee with a defined plan will be celebrating the Golden Jubilee with a host of events throughout the year 2014-2015. Onam Celebrations, education and literary seminars are among the many events planned.

To mark the 50th Anniversary, the association have initiated the Asan Golden Jubilee Merit-based Education Scholarships and the A K Gopalan Navathi Scholarship, in honour of its Founder, for school students based on economic need worth Rs. 50-75 lakh. They have also introduced awards including an Asan National News Media Award for Best Editorial Contribution with Social Relevance. It would look at journalistic work that has a transformative value in the print media in English and Indian languages. The nominations are expected to be received by February 2015 which is 2 months before the presentation of the award. The award will comprise a plaque, a citation and a cash component of Rs. 1,00,000/- and will be presented in April 2015 to coincide with Kumaran Asan's birthday.

Navathi Celebration

January 5th, 2014 marked the 90th birthday of founder secretary Sri. A.K. Gopalan fondly called AKG, an exemplary visionary and educationist. The function "A K G Navathi Celebration" was organized by Chennai Malayalees in honor of Sri AKG at Sri Mutha Venkatasubba Rao Concert Hall; Chennai in recognition for his decades of outstanding achievements and for providing relentless service in the field of Education. REPORT OF THE SYNERGIA 2013 – INTER-COLLEGIATE TECHNICAL MEET

The Commerce Department of Asan Memorial College of Arts & Science, Chennai has organized an Inter-Collegiate Technical Meet - "Synergia 2013" on 5th September 2013. Mrs. Nagalakshmi Yagnaraman, Vice-President, Polaris Software Lab Ltd., has inaugurated the Technical Meet and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. S. Lakshmanan, Former General Manager, Indian Bank, Chennai has graced the occasion as Guest of Honour and delivered the Keynote address. Dr. E.K. Purushothaman , our Joint Secretary, has delivered the presidential address in the inaugural session. Dr. S.Ramanathan, our Principal gave the welcome address and Dr. M. Jaya, H.O.D. of Commerce proposed the vote of thanks.

Nearly 350 participants from 35 colleges in and around Chennai have participated in our meet. Renowned colleges like Loyola College, M.O.P. Vaishnav College, S.D.N.B. College, D.G. Vaishnav College, Hindustan College have actively participated in the various events. After the inaugural session tea break was given. Following the tea break various events were conducted simultaneously in ABS, AV Room, Mini Auditorium and Main auditorium. Dr. K. Malarvizhi, Dean, Hindustan College of Arts and Science chaired the paper presentation and 17 participants have presented the paper. 18 colleges have actively participated in Act 2 Promote. Mr. Gaurav of Loyola College has been selected as Best Manager 2013. More than 25 students of various colleges have participated in each off stage events like Fi'8 Ur Stockzz, Wrraap it Up, M'rkt D Waste and D Brain Churn. Mrs Abirami and Mrs Hemamalini, Founders of Bharatha Chitralaya Academy were the judges for Wrap it Up and M'rkt D Waste. Ms. Arthi Mangalam Jayaraj, Head, HR of Vivek's has conducted Bizie Quizee and the students from 28 colleges have participated actively in this event.

Thiru. T.E. Thiruvengadam, General Manager, Repco Bank – Govt. of India Enterprises, Chennai, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the cash prizes and certificates to the participants. Loyola College won the overall championship of Synergia 2013.

The students of Asan Institute of Management successfully organized and participated in cleaning the Marina coast on August 4th, 2012. Placard Painting Contest on 3rd August 2012 The students of Asan Institute of Management had a placard painting contest on August 3rd, a day before the Marina Beach cleanup. This was done to educate and encourage the masses to undo the wrongs of yesterday and the importance of cleaner living today for a sustainable tomorrow. The students participated enthusiastically and the event was judged by Ms Madhavi, Campus Head; Asan Business School.

'Save Pallikarnai' on September 17th 2012 in the Auditorium of Asan Memorial Institutions, Jaladampet. A one day Seminar of Waste Management titled 'Save Pallikarnai' is scheduled on 17th September 17th 2012. Renowed Speakers will be addressing the Audience. The Corporation Commisioner will listen to the grievances of the community .

MAGMA is an inter-collegiate management

MAGMA is an inter-collegiate management meet conducted by MBA department of Asan Institute of Management. It signifies an explosion of youth, energy, enthusiasm and inspiration. This event has grown into an epitome in management activies for the last 12 years. MAGMA has become a successful platform for students of various colleges to interact and showcase their skills. The theme of this year's MAGMA is 'The Olympics'. As 'The Olympics' represents the spirit of games, MAGMA portrays the various managerial skills of students. Through the inter-ciollegiate meet organized by budding managers the participants are provided a forum to exhibit and test their talents and innovative ideas in a competitive environment.

Training Workshop for the 2nd year MBA students on conducting market research by Mr Srinivas Guntha of Metric Global Consultancy , Pune on 10th August, 2012. Mr Srinivas Guntha of Metric Global Consultancy , Pune organized a one day Training Workshop for the 2nd year MBA students on conducting market research . Students learnt about various techniques such as DE Matrix, RIRA, Moster and ways to do research on various marketing areas.

The first year MBA students visited the Times of India Press on OMR Road 14th August, 2012. The students of first year MBA visited the Times of India Press on OMR Road on 14/8/2012. The students acquired knowledge about the various processes of printing. They came to know about the colour techniques and the speed of the press, wastage and the actual cost incurred in printing

Hatsun Industrial Visit (23rd July 2012)

The Industrial Visit to HATSUN was very much informative and pleasant. It was very useful for the students, and was enriched with the knowledge regarding the manufacturing process of Ice creams. The employers in the organization took keen interest in explaining each and every activities starting from preparing ice cream mix till the freezing stage of the packed ice creams which are kept to be distributed. It was really helpful for the students to know about the various machines that are used for the ice cream manufacturing process.

It could be noted that these machines are arranged in a sequential order which helps to carry out the production efficiently. The students came to know more about the diversified products of the same industry. Being an MBA student it is very much necessary to know the production information and various processes. It will definitely enrich the future career.

PPT presentation was given by MSE senior staff who had 26 year's of experience in MSE which included the origin of Stock exchange, Regulation of SEBI over Stock exchanges, operation of Stock exchanges etc;

Students were also able to view how the online trading is done. Students came to know about brokers, sub brokers, SENSEX, BSE, NSE, etc. They also got a chance to get information about issuing of Shares, Listing, Participants of securities market, DEMAT account,etc;

It also provided information with various types of trading and modern trend in online trading. For an MBA student, it is very much necessary to know all these stock market dealings and information. It will definitely enrich the future career prospects.

Mercatus symposium 2012

Mercatus is a marketing symposium defining Marketing in the new era conducted by Asan Memorial Institute of Management, Chennai on July 12th 2012. The guest of honour included Mr.R.Seshadri, MD of Anugrah Madison Adverising Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Raj Kumar, Marketing Manager, Air Asia, Mr.Sudharsan, Marketing Commercial, Air Asia and Mr.Rajiv Kumar, BDM, Jaeger India. With eager audience awaiting for the presentation, Mr Seshadri initiated it with the topic "Brand Building in Rural India "and presented it thought provokingly. It Covered Key challenges in Rural Marketing, Changing Customers and Service Marketing in Rural India. Then it was preceded over by Mr.Raj Kumar on the topic "Innovation in business, breaking the routine & Bringing big". It included Air Asia's Simple yet powerful innovation over a period of 11 years from its commencement. He also expressed the guidelines to become innovative like forming the MBA student's teams, starting counselling and creating proposals for providing solutions and support to backward Companies by inculcating student's innovative ideas in those companies and ultimately making those companies to enter into a strong market position.

Then, Mr. Sudharsan took over the event stating "The evolution of Facebook in market place". It was a interesting topic and gathered attention of all students as Social networking has occupied an important place in everyone's life. It included many audio-visual aids concerning Social networking, attracting all the age groups. Marketing is at its best when it is done through the facebook and other social networking channels.

He also stated the market scenario, top fb brands and fan acquisition in face book and cost incurred for it. Last but not the least, Mr. Rajiv Kumar concluded the session with "what really a customer wants" by making the audience get trapped into his wonderful presentation with a light touch of humour in between . He carried is presentation with the pricing and quality being part of marketing strategies, gap analysis between company products and customer expectations, and the ways and means for overcoming those gaps.

The symposium gave the students a new exposure into marketing era and made them to understand how to market them first before marketing with the products or services. This session was like seed sowing and Knowledge etching to MBA's for their own career prospects.

It was ultimately a successful event held in the campus with dedication, commitment, perseverance and passion for Knowledge by the students with whole hearted support extended from the Director Mrs. Ashvini, Staffs and the Management. We expect many more successful events to proceed on and on henceforth.

The students of AMIMA MBA visited the Madras Stock Exchange and understood from experts various concepts of the stock markets , the core functioning of markets and various products , the value of NISM / NSE / BSE Certification Courses and a preliminary introduction to trading, Clearing & Settlement. They were also given an insight into mutual funds and the Derivatives market. They were also introduced to live Stock trading as it actually happen...all in all a real eye opener...
